Toubabo Jarju rejoins RAEC Mons
Gambia international Mustapha “Toubabo” Jarju has returned to Belgium to rejoin former club RAEC Mons after his six months of bad experience in MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps.
Major League Soccer franchise on Friday announce that they have parted ways with the 25-year-old Gambian after he became the first African to sign as a Designated Player in Major League Soccer after signing with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on 12 July 2011 but after parting ways with the Caps, Toubabo Jarju didn’t seem to lack offers on the table as Mons came calling for him.
Gambia Sports Online can reliably reveal that the 25-year-old Gambian has signed a two and half year deal with Mons on Wednesday and so joins country-man Ibou Sawaneh at the club.
“I am happy to be back to my second home,” Toubabo said on Wednesday morning shortly after signing the contract. “Football in Canada is the same like football in Belgium but there, I had problems with the President [Bob Lenarduzzi] and the Coach [Tom Soehn] because of my trips to the national team [Gambia]. I am sorry that I had to leave Mons, but now everything is in order and I am back,” Toubabo asserted.
The Gambian attacking midfielder who signed his first professional contract in 2006 with SK Lierse became a Mons player in 2008 when he left Lierse for the Dragons until in 2011 when he decided to leave to join Whitecaps. He was instrumental in Mons’ promotion to the Belgian Juplier Pro League [top tier] last season by registering 25 goals, including seven during the final round of the second division league.
Mustapha Jarju is however not eligible to play for Mons yet as the documents that should allow him to play in the league games are not yet authorized by the Belgian FA and will so have to miss Mons’ trip to Standard Liège on Thursday.
